Dinosaurs of Russia: Past, Present, Future

Anton Nelikhov (Alpina Non-Fiction)

For more than a hundred years Russia was a giant white spot in the history of dinosaurs. The dinosaur discoveries were limited to a few bones, and only in the last twenty or thirty years the situation has changed dramatically and drastically. Five major and globally important locations have been found. Some discoveries became a scientific sensation: the fossils of the oldest feathered dinosaurs, the richest and most diverse fauna of middle Jurassic mammaliaform groups and a huge region where evolution had practically stopped in the time of dinosaurs had been discovered in Russia.

A book by a science journalist, historian of palaeontology Anton Nelikhov tells the story of these and many other discoveries, theories and hypotheses, as well as the challenging history of discovery and ‘shutdown’ of locations of Russian dinosaurs, the latest methods of studying their fossils, the dinosaurs in popular culture and, finally, the prospects for research of Russian dinosaurs.
