The book is dedicated to the Age of Discovery and the fight for dominance over the World Ocean which followed. It deals with the ambiguity of the concept of “piracy” and with its historical and ideological background, with the everyday life of its “heroes” and it also debunks the widespread myths. The text is accompanied by more than 300 illustrations, including paintings by Rubens, van Dyck and Bosch.
