My Prison Trip

Sasha Skochilenko and S. M. Favorski

In March 2022, Sasha Skochilenko—a young musician and artist from St. Petersburg—replaced five price tags in a supermarket near her friend's home with anti-war messages. She could not have imagined that this small act of peaceful protest would trigger one of the most emblematic political prosecutions of the war era.
Two weeks later, Skochilenko was arrested and placed in pre-trial detention. Over the next two years, a team of investigators, prosecutors, judges, and state-appointed experts produced seventeen volumes of case files arguing that five paper price tags constituted a serious threat to Russia's national security and evidence of hatred toward the Russian army.
The "case of the five price tags" became a symbol of the Russian authorities' increasingly harsh and often absurd repression of those who opposed the war in Ukraine. Skochilenko herself unexpectedly became one of Russia's best-known political prisoners and an internationally recognized figure of the pacifist movement.
In My Prison Trip, she recounts her experience through the diaries she kept from her very first day in detention until her release, offering a deeply personal account of imprisonment, resilience, and the human cost of political repression
